BACKGROUND: During the summer debt crisis, many talked about the need for bipartisan compromise and urged civility, though few incentives exist to encourage cooperation. American politics have become uber-partisan, emotional, argumentative and downright nasty at times. Ms. Perino, a GSPM adjunct faculty member, and Mr. McCurry will discuss what this means for the United States and how the country can move beyond rhetoric and stalemate to address national challenges.

GW's Graduate School of Political Management, the pioneer school in the nonpartisan study of political management and applied politics, offers graduate programs in political management, legislative affairs, strategic public relations and PAC management, as well as international programs in Latin America and Europe. The school seeks to educate its students and professionals in the tools, principles and values of participatory democracy; preparing them for careers as ethical and effective advocates and leaders at the international, national and local levels.
