BACKGROUND:

The Next Step Program directors are political strategists, media gurus, Congressional staffers, advocacy leaders and other women who are established in their careers and committed to providing the next generation of young women with guidance, knowledge and skills.  Next Step is a Running Start program. Founded in early 2007, Running Start grew out of the non-partisan Women Under Forty Political Action Committee (WUFPAC), which financially supports young women running for federal office. Running Start was formed when it became clear that the pool of young women considering careers in politics and running for elected office was far too small.

GW's Graduate School of Political Management, the pioneer enterprise in the nonpartisan study of political management and applied politics, offers graduate programs in political management, legislative affairs, public relations and PAC management, as well as international programs in Latin America and Europe. The school seeks to improve politics by educating its students and professionals about the tools, principles and values of participatory democracy; preparing them for careers as ethical and effective advocates and leaders at the international, national and local levels.
