GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY TO MEET WITH GOVERNOR HENRIQUE CAPRILES-RADONSKI OF MIRANDA, VENEZUELA
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 28, 2009) – Governor Martin O’Malley will welcome Governor Henrique Capriles-Radonski of Miranda State, Venezuela tomorrow for a meeting, where the two will begin a dialogue between the states of Maryland and Miranda in hopes of achieving mutual benefits. This ceremonial event is the first meeting between the two governors.
This is Governor Capriles-Radonski’s first official trip to Maryland, but he has made several visits toAmerica before. He is the youngest member to Congress ever to have been elected, having served as Speaker of the House until Congress was dissolved in 1999. Governor Capriles-Radonski is traveling to the United States for two academic engagements. The first is at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management, where the topic will be “Political Mandate and the Fulfillment of Promises: The Case of Miranda”. After the meeting with Governor O’Malley, Governor Capriles-Radonski will travel to the Kennedy School of Government for the commencement of a three year coordinated project aimed at public policy design to reduce criminal activities in the city of Caracas.
Governor Capriles-Radonski, 37, was elected in November 2008 to a four-year term as the 36thGovernor of Miranda. He previously served as the fourth Mayor of the City of Baruta (2000-2008), and as Deputy to the National Congress (1998-1999). Miranda is located in Venezuela’s north-central region and is the home of the capital city, Caracas.
