Background

Founded in 2010, The Society of Presidential Pollsters is a Washington, D.C.-based academic and professional organization that honors the work of pollsters who have served a sitting president. The organizations seeks to archive and preserve the work of those who have polled for a sitting president, collect and share the history of the presidential pollster and stimulate debate and camaraderie in the profession through special events and gatherings.

The organization works closely with GW’s Graduate School of Political Management to locate and obtain records of the polling and related analysis done for the Oval Office. The university’s Estelle and Melvin Gelman Library acts as the official repository to preserve everything from questionnaires and memoranda to letters and memorabilia in order to establish the society as the premiere academic resource for the study of presidential decision making.

GW’s Graduate School of Political Management, the pioneer enterprise in the nonpartisan study of political management and applied politics, offers graduate programs in political management, legislative affairs, public relations and PAC management, as well as international programs in Latin America and Europe. The school seeks to improve politics by educating its students and professionals about the tools, principles and values of participatory democracy; preparing them for careers as ethical and effective advocates and leaders at the international, national and local levels.
