Take the Twitter Challenge

I was in San Diego over the weekend, and in a small Mexican resturant not far from the beach, my friends and I came up with the Twitter Challenge.

We all know that Twitter is a great way to advertise, to update friends on what you are doing, to find events, and to make friends. But it is also a great way to find information and the people that have information. This led us to ask, "What if someone set out to write a college research paper, using nothing but Twitter as a research guide?" Are there enough people on Twitter? And is there enough information on Twitter, to fuel a research paper?

Here are the rules:

1.  When you start your research, use nothing but www.Search.Twitter.com. You can use other resources from there, but your initial findings of say, a great book that you can reference, should be found on or through Twitter. Feel free to go to a library after that, but do not use any resources not found or referred via Twitter.

2.  Instead of asking people around you for help and ideas, ask people on Twitter.

3. Cite first hand knowledge gained on or through Twitter. If someone is an expert on your subject, and you spoke with them over Twitter, cite it.

4. Tell us how it goes! This is ultimately a test of how much useful information can be found on and through Twitter. In the end, the best method of research involves a number of different methods, but for now, let's see if Twitter is enough.
